Day 21: Gunnison, Colorado

We had a quiet day today. The intention was to have an easy day with a trip to Crested Butte via the Ohio and Kebbler passes. The latter had been recommended to us but we have been spoilt and so we were not blown away by what was on offer. Rain coming in didn't help the occasion and so we ended up having a leisurely lunch and some proper coffee in Crested Butte. Dave started making noises about going back to Hancocks but it isn't next door and I wasn't keen. In the end we came back and did a bit of grocery shopping. Hardly epic but necessary and probably a good thing to have an easy day as we have a few days of harder riding ahead.
It's been interesting to see people's reaction to our trip. The locals are invariably supportive and are polite enough to appear interested when we tell them about it. Most are quite surprised to hear the distances we have covered and are even more surprised that we are able to take the time to do it. In the states it appears that average annual leave is 10 days or less so they are envious when we tell them the law is 4 weeks in New Zealand. I don't tell them how much I get as a state doctor. Especially if I were to tell them that I had to go into leave debt despite how much I get per year! Sometimes the pure capitalist model doesn't work best as the drive to create and earn money often overrides the drive for quality of life. Don't fall for it people.
Scraping the barrel for photos today.
